BMW is legendary for power, performance, and design, and more and more, it’s known for being a leader in EV adoption. In fact, the most powerful BMW is electric. Along with BMW Group, six other major automakers, General Motors, Honda, Hyundai, Kia, Mercedes-Benz Group, and Stellantis NV, will bring at least 30,000 new high-powered chargers to Wichita and the rest of North America.

This joint venture will be both publicly and privately funded, with investments at the state and federal levels. Derby area drivers can look forward to stations opening as early as summer 2024. There will be places along highways and in suburbs where you can find Combined Charging System (CCS) and North American Charging Standard (NACS) connectors, restrooms, and other amenities.

Why Wichita Needs EV Charging Infrastructure

By 2030, EVs and hybrids are expected to outsell other types of vehicles and dominate 50% of the total market. 30-42 million plug-in vehicles will need charging in North America. The NREL (National Renewable Energy Laboratory) estimates 182,000 DC fast chargers will be necessary to meet the increased demand.

EV charging has already become a major concern for American drivers, who share one charging station for every 72 EVs. 2.3 million American drivers are already in need of expanded access to fast, reliable charging in urban and suburban areas. BMW has an expanding electric legacy and BMW of Wichita is proud to bring that energy to Andover!
